Accessibility
Accessible overview:
With enough notice and information we can assist travelers with their accessibility needs and ensure they have the right level of support to fully enjoy their vacation.
Wheelchair:
We can arrange wheelchair accessible hotel rooms and, although we do not have a specially adapted vehicle for wheelchair users, we can provide space in vehicles for foldable chairs.
China is becoming more and more accessible for wheelchair users. Subway stations have lifts, and where they don’t, subway staff have training to provide appropriate assistance. Lifts and ramps are also available at key locations including the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace and the Great Wall.
Our guides are trained to be aware of the needs of wheelchair users, and we can also arrange for one-on-one assistance if required.

Blind/ limited vision:
Many aspects of our tours are tactile, such as visits to the Great Wall of China, the desert or the coast. If required, we can provide one-on-one assistance for travelers affected by blindness or poor vision.
Deaf/limited hearing:
Because sign languages vary from country to country it can be difficult to guarantee an interpreter. However we can usually provide an electronic translation service, and we can also offer one-to-one assistance if needed.
Cognitive conditions:
For travelers with cognitive conditions we recommend traveling during the low season when it is less busy. We can adapt itineraries to visit quieter locations wherever possible too.
'Free from' food:
We check with travelers before departure for any dietary requirements or allergies that we need to be aware of. Where information around ingredients is unclear we will work to get a correct translation.
LGBT:
We have arranged several LGBT+ tours in the past with no issues, and we aim to make all of our vacations inclusive and accessible.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
This tour will transport you to an eclectic and culturally significant range of heritage sites that date back to ancient times and it will also take you to unique places of natural beauty, including lakes, deserts and mountain ranges of spectacular beauty. We fully understand and appreciate the importance of developing itineraries that are sustainable and reduce the impacts of tourism on the human and natural environment wherever possible. Indeed, all of our tours maintain a great respect for the cultural and natural surroundings in which we visit and travel, and we have opted to use only essential methods of public or private transport for this itinerary. To help us protect and preserve what remains of both China’s wonderful cultural and natural heritage, we ask that all of our travel participants help care for the environments they visit by being respectfully aware of the unique locations we take them to. The importance of sustainable travel, particularly in sensitive natural environments and ecosystems, is something we also value highly. As a bonus of our unique approach, you will also discover that our tour groups are small in size so that are impacts are minimised, and of course, so that we can afford you the attention you deserve!
People
Our itinerary has been designed to fully incorporate the local communities of the regions we visit. We value their unique insights, knowledge, and hospitality, and believe that they too should benefit from tourism too. We respect their traditions and beliefs, and are acutely aware of the need to respect indigenous people and religious sites in particular. An English-speaking guide and driver will be provided in each city, who will remain with you throughout your time in that city. A new guide and a new driver will meet you at each city on your tour, to provide you with the best local knowledge available.
We chose wheelchair accessible rooms in locally-owned hotels in each city entire the trip, use locally-owned restaurants, and services to ensure that local communities and business prosper in a highly competitive market. An added bonus of using locally-owned services and people is that they will often be highly enthusiastic, generous and proud to welcome you into the places where many have be born and raised.
We are also exceptionally aware of the need to use local ‘green’ tourism services and businesses to ensure that the natural and social environments that host tourism are protected and well-managed. This includes the use of locally-sourced produce such as food and crafts, for example. However, perhaps one of the greatest reasons for using locally-owned accommodation is that you will see the ‘real’ China in its various guises. You will sample traditional villages, entertainment shows, cuisines and ways of life that can be significantly different to anything you may have experienced before. We will also take you to incredible places away from the tourist crowds to ensure that your experiences are genuinely unique. We fully believe that this is a wonderful way to learn about this spectacular country and have no doubt that you will agree!
