Vacation information

Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modeled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, traveling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. For those with limited time, a small group tour will save valuable time in planning, and on vacation.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Traveling in a small group enables us to stay in locally-owned and run hotels. We work closely with our accommodation providers to minimise the overuse of linen and towels. Many hotels we stay in display signs asking travelers to reuse their towels and to take short showers to minimise water wastage. Equally, our leaders encourage travelers to turn off electrical appliances like lights and air-conditioning whilst not in their rooms.

Throughout this trip we use local transport for all mid and long-distance journeys including a ferry across the Rio de la Plata from Buenos Aires to Colonia. Traveling on local transport and avoiding flights not only helps to keep the cost of this trip down, but also reduces the use of fuel and the emissions they generate.

Two common environmental issues faced on this trip are littering and single use plastics. All our tour leaders are passionate about responsible travel and are also trained to help travelers identify and implement sustainable practices. These include disposing of rubbish properly, refilling water bottles, and avoiding the use of plastic bags and other disposable plastic goods.

People

This trip has a maximum group size of 16, which allows us to minimise our impact on the places we visit. Over tourism is an issue we’re acutely aware of and we are taking measures to counteract it. For example, in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, our leaders take travelers on city orientation walks to explore the main highlights as well as lesser known corners that would be impossible to experience on mass flag-following style tours.

A small group size also allows us to stay on a real working ranch in Uruguay for three days, where travelers are able to experience first-hand daily chores like milking cows, rounding cattle and vaccinating animals.

In addition, we have a foundation that was set up to empower travelers to have a positive impact on the communities they visit. Our foundation now supports over 50 local, grassroots projects around the world. Over the past 15 years, the foundation has distributed over AU $5 million to projects tackling areas such as sustainable development, human rights, child protection, environmental conservation, wildlife protection, education and healthcare.
