History vacations suffer from an image problem. They conjure up a picture of a sedate older crowd crammed into coaches, ticking off a list of antiquity...
It could be the potent coffee of the lowlands, the mind-bending heat and humidity of the coast, or the lack of oxygen in the Andes – but somehow, when...
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

CARBON REDUCTION:The journey into the captivating Tatacoa Desert involves a 2-hour hike through a breathtaking landscape. The exclusive mode of exploring the desert is on foot, ensuring zero carbon emissions. Travelers are restricted to authorized paths, thereby preserving the rock and sand formations that have naturally formed over hundreds of years.
Dolphin sighting is conducted in canoes without engines. The canoes are propelled by hand using paddles. This activity is entirely environmentally friendly, contributing to zero carbon emissions.
On this trip we actively seek lodgings that prioritize ecological consciousness and implement sustainable methodologies, like solar energy panels utilization in Hotel Quinto Nivel and Akawanka Lodge also, rainwater collection in Akawanka Lodge.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE:
We take care to ensure that our tours do not disrupt the natural desert ecosystem. Additionally, we emphasize to our travelers the importance of leaving no waste behind and of respecting the area's flora and fauna.
Our guides are experts in the region's flora and fauna, dedicated to ensuring our tours have a minimal environmental impact. They undergo training in responsible travel practices, including how to avoid disturbing fragile ecosystems, minimize waste, and respect local cultures and customs.
Throughout our tours, we encourage our clients to respect the dolphins' space and refrain from touching or feeding them. This practice supports the preservation of the dolphins' natural behavior and prevents them from developing a dependency on humans for food.

LOCAL ECONOMY:We collaborate closely with local communities to ensure that our tours make a positive impact on the local economy, while providing our travelers with authentic, respectful, and meaningful cultural experiences.
In Villa de Leyva, we collaborate with local guides who possess in-depth knowledge of the region's distinctive history and culture. This guarantees that our guests acquire an authentic and respectful comprehension of the area's heritage. Additionally, we opt for locally-owned accommodations to contribute to the local economy.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY:
We hire individuals regardless of their race, age, sexual orientation, or gender, as long as the candidates are qualified for the job and proficient in both English and Spanish. The company ensures that all employees receive wages higher than the minimum wage.
We are a LGBTQ+ friendly travel agency with a singular goal: to craft extraordinary experiences for all our travelers. Our commitment to creating exceptional trips extends beyond our clients' sexual orientation.
