As a world leader in green energy, environmental protection, and plastic use reduction Costa Rica beckons us towards sustainable tourism and we gladly heed that call with our itinerary.

When we venture to the mountains, jungles & beaches, each boutique accommodation we've selected boast many eco-friendly habits like water conservation, organic local ingredients at their restaurant, and energy reduction efforts. One eco-lodge goes even further with its sustainable and self-sufficient practices, from organic agriculture to energy production and carbon neutrality. As well, when we buy snacks for the road, we look for fresh and local bites; in Costa Rica this might be tropical fruits (young coconuts, anyone?), plantain chips, or Pejibaye - a starchy, nutty fruit .

On all of our trips, we focus on reduction of plastic and make sure that water jugs are available for refilling personal reusable water bottles. In the event of waste, recycle and composting, we direct client to the appropriate bins and disposal method. In Costa Rica, safe, filtered water is not always easily available so we provide guests with a special discount code for a Grayl water filter if they'd like to reduce plastic waste even more by drinking filtered tap water.

People

Our accommodation and activity vendor partners throughout the trip are all locally run businesses that offer comfortable and sustainable employment to local populations at fair wages. Each business and restaurant we patron is a leader in their community, providing thoughtful job training that will serve their employees for decades to come.

Our community partner for this trip is a well-established local organization that supports disadvantaged youth and their families in 18 of the surrounding communities. They provide much needed educational opportunities, nutritional support, legal support, medical and psychological care and more and we are proud to donate a portion of our sales on this trip to support their work.

As well, our guides throughout the trip are locals who understand the intricacies of Costa Rican history & culture and are eager to pass along their knowledge. While we explore the beauty and history of Costa Rica, we will also learn the philosophies of their culture like the ever-present motto: Pura Vida!
