Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

CARBON REDUCTIONWith the need for two flights to arrive into Guatemala we appreciate that the carbon impact of this trip needs to be worth the experience we provide and that it’s a memorable trip. That being said some airlines do endeavour to use more sustainable aviation fuel which we discuss with our guests before departure as well as how they can minimise their own footprint on the ground, including avoiding single use plastics whenever possible. Also being mindful of their energy usage in hotels for example reusing towels, switching off lights, only using air con when necessary, all of which makes a small difference.
Guatemala is a luscious country and much of it’s food is locally grown including flour, grains and fruits, so the option of vegetarian food is plentiful.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
We support a number of projects on the ground in Guatemala to support the preservation of the environment and wildlife. Our partners support ARCAS, a local NGO with its main site in Peten, the mission is to provide environmental education, protected areas management, marine turtle conservation, sustainable community development, ecotourism and reforestation, They also take on in situ projects and releases for spider monkeys, parrots, crocodiles, small mammals, iguanas, hawks, amongst many others.
Where possible we opt for shared transfers on longer journeys to minimise the impact of traveling.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYGuatemala is built on authentic experiences, local cultures, collectives and tradition. We include a number of tours which ensure that our guests get the real Guatemala whether it’s a visit to Chichi market on route to Lake Atitlan or a day spent exploring the lake meeting locally run artisans. These include; a women's textile cooperative, choclateers, tea manufacturers, medicinal tea, painters and story tellers. All of our itineraries include local free lance guides, day trips always eat in local restaurants and communities and cultures are respected in every destination.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
Our partners on the ground have been operating for over 20 years, many of their employees have been with them for nearly as long. They operate a fair and equal operation, there are many opportunities for women for example, many of who are now in upper management having started straight out of school. A number of training schemes and projects give local young people the opportunity to work within the business and contribute and often move into paid employment.
