Our tour around the palaces & tombs of Hue with our responsible travel guide Mr Dai & the trip over the mountains to Hoi An.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Go to Hoi An - great little town with lovely beaches. Disappointed with Ho Chi Minh City (we love Bangkok) & would recommend more time in Hanoi - a great place to walk around.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes - definitely helps their economy.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Fabulous - loved Vietnam & felt very safe & welcome.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Highlights of the trip were 5 days at the fantastic Mango Bay resort on Phu Quoc Island and trekking / homestay in Pu Luong National Park. The tour operator, were excellent and extremely well organised. All drivers and guides were very punctual. We had to rearrange part of the tour at short notice and the operator responded in a very efficient manner, taking all of the hassle away from us.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Vietnam is a large country with lots to see. Don't try to pack too much in to your vacation - just pick a few highlights and spend some time in those places.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes - Mango Bay is very eco - friendly (solar powered shower, no air-con etc). They also employ local staff at a good wage and provide English lessons for them. Many of the trips we took were to UNESCO sites and National Parks which were well managed to control environmental impact of tourism.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very enjoyable vacation with a lot of diverse experiences. Would definitely recommend it.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet and people

We are a wholly Vietnamese company totally committed to the betterment of tourism in Vietnam. To achieve our objective, we work closely with clients, service providers and other organisations to improve standards, protect our country’s environment and culture, and wherever possible, direct the benefits of the income from tourism to individuals and local communities without the use of intermediaries.

By booking this tour, you'll be helping the operator to support Vietnamese service providers, artists and performers, small businesses, boat owners and other poor people in communities throughout Vietnam. For example, by cruising on the Ha Long Bay, you’ll contribute to local welfare because the owner of the junk and all his staff are local people.

We use freelance local guides with wide experience and knowledge of cultural traditions and an ability to interpret the cultural heritage of the people in the places visited. For this tour, you'll have two different guides, one from the north and the other from the south of Vietnam.

We have built strong links with local communities, craftspeople and artisans. We offer visitors an opportunity to meet them, thereby valuing their activities and thus helping towards their survival. Wherever possible, we contract local indigenous suppliers and assist them to improve the quality of their services. We also involve ourselves with other organisations to contribute wider issue.

For example, we are working closely with a small project trying save a critically endangered species of large primate, now reduced to less than sixty individuals worldwide. We're seeking financial assistance to supplement the meagre resources currently available to the project director.

We also help her to develop her own web site. We are also collaborating with an international non-governmental organisation in setting up an ecology based village homestay network in the same area to widen awareness of the urgency of the situation amongst visitors. We believe that tourism in a developing country should be a means of alleviating poverty and protecting the indigenous culture and natural environment for the benefit of the rest of the world and its future inhabitants.
