1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Doing road trip in a loveley 4x4 Landcruiser, exploring the beautiful landscapes, mountains, wadis, and amazing country of Oman. Each area visited from mountain to desert to coast were fascinating, the people so friendly and welcoming. Would certainly consider a return visit in the future.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Look forward to some amazing off road/track driving and swimming in wadis. Also be aware that the tourist industry is predominently run by Indians and therefore every hotel will have a bias on Indian and spicy food. Do respect the local traditions as far as dress is concerned, it is appreciated by the locals. Alcohol in the hotel that serve it is incredibly expensive! Even the non Alcoholic beer is £10 a tin.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Vacation benefitted local people. Tourism is a big industry as this is such a lovely country which fortunately is managing to remain traditional. Hotel staff are mainly Indian, but the villagers gain from visitors and really appreciate them. Amazingly there are still a lot of plastic water bottles strewn around the countryside, a lot of which are legit by locals. The hotels do use plastic water bottles, though in Shangri La Muscat we were given a refillable water bottle to use, with plenty of water points around the grounds.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Amazing, the ground agents in Muscat, led by Sajad, were so helpful ,to the point of phoning us on our trip in order to make sure everything was ok. Really impressive! Just like to say a big thank you to Mark from the host company for his passion and enthusiasm about Oman. He “sold it” to us on every level and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The different culture was very interesting as exemplified by the Bait Zubair museum in Muscat and the Bedouin experience in the Desert.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Take a travel kettle Understand exactly what is included as the itinerary was not always clear Don’t be frightened to self drive Don’t have a car from Rent a Car Ladies to take clothes that cover but are cool3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Staying in village guest houses is really good for us and for the village economy4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
It was superb. Oman is an amazing place. We expect to be going back next year. If you were not a seasoned traveler then Undiscovered Destinations would probably just give you what was easiest and not what was right for you. They were not good at detail and we probably not use them again.Holiday Reviews
