Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
On this tour we visit, Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve, Oman's leading conservation project for the protection of turtles. Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve was established in 1996 as a major eco-tourism project to protect turtle breeding and educate tourists about the breeding patterns and exploitation of turtles. The large visitor center is well equipped and provides the ideal base for educational programmes run by the knowledgeable and enthusiastic resident team.Visitors can go down to the beach with a resident guide in the evening and in the morning at sunrise. Visitors must at all times follow the instructions of the resident experts and must stay a designated distance behind the turtles so as not to disturb them. The project also helps local people to see the importance of conservation.
Water is a precious resource and nowhere more so than in the arid region of the Arabian peninsular. We work with our local team to ensure that the accommodation used actively encourages guests to use water wisely. Any possible savings on water usage had a direct benefit to carbon emissions due to the energy used in the treatment of waste water.
People
By keeping our tours involved with the communities we visit, the people who benefit from our tours in Oman are the local people; drivers, hoteliers, and restaurateurs, local guides - even the Bedouin from whom you can buy fresh fruit while traveling. We only use small scale accommodation on this tour and not large hotel chains. Revenue from entrance fees directly contributes to the ongoing maintenance and protecting the local heritage such as Jabrin Castle. We only employ local staff and unlike many operators we believe that to send a foreign Tour Leader along to accompany your trip is an unnecessary burden on cost and the overall footprint of the tour. We believe that locals know best. Our local operators only use locally owned accommodation. This means your money stays in the area to benefit the local community.
In order to allow our clients to make an informed decision on where a greater proportion of their money should be spent, we avoid including pre-paid full board meals where possible. Local restaurants and cafes then benefit.
This tour is operated on a private basis and we do not operate on the basis of large bus or coach tours keeping our impacts as low as possible.
