Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

El Calafate is known as the gateway of Patagonian glaciers in Argentina. The most famous of these icy giants is the Perito Moreno Glacier, the only one in the area that is still advancing. The others have started to reduce their surfaces due to climate change. It is important for us to spread the word among travelers, and to share information about the creation and conservation of glaciers in Patagonia. For the conservation of National Parks, we promote the same travel philosophy- Knowledge to make good choices, and responsible travel to preserve nature.

How does this trip help to protect the environment?

* We encourage our travelers to visit the Glaciarium Museum, just a couple of miles away from downtown Calafate. Conceived to spread the results of local research and promote new investigations, this local museum is an important ally to preserve nature in the area.

* Reducing carbon emissions is a permanent goal on each trip. On your free day in El Calafate, we always recommend taking bike tours, like the 4x4 and mountain biking trip to one of the viewpoints 10 minutes away from El Calafate. In this area, archeological remains can be found too. We think this type of tour is important to immerse in the local history.

* On this trip, you will travel more than 300 miles without taking a single flight in Patagonia. We try to cut off flights and promote land transportation every time we can to reduce carbon emissions.

People

We believe that visiting a local community is taking responsibility towards the people and the environment. As an Argentine-based agency, we know how people struggle every year with the economy. This situation becomes harder outside Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. On this trip, you will be lodging in family-run hotels and visiting Patagonia with local and certified guides.

How does this trip help to develop local economies?

* We promote local projects like Chacra Las Moras is another local project you can visit during your day in El Calafate. They produce organic fruits (mostly berries) and vegetables which sell in a little grocery store.

* El Destilador, a 12-years old family-run business, is another local project you can visit during your day in El Calafate. They distill local flora to make special oils. With these oils, the family makes Phyto cosmetics which are sold in local markets and fairs in the area.
