Machu Picchu: Peru’s greatest archaeological monument aims to become the first carbon-neutral wonder of the world.

The Peruvian government, which manages the site, has tasked itself with progressively lowering emissions – a 45 per cent reduction by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2050 – in keeping with the Paris climate agreement. Successful waste and water management projects, spearheaded by multinational company AJE, rooted hotel group Inkaterra and the local community, have laid the groundwork for further schemes, including planting a million trees in the cloud forest around the lofty citadel. Below the ruins is a hydroelectric plant powered by the Urubamba, the river that keeps the Sacred Valley so lush. Meanwhile, surrounding restaurants are turning their used cooking oil into biodiesel.

During this tour there are many opportunities for cycling, tracking and bout riding. Visiting places without motor engine transportation contribute to the environment.

Antigua Casona San Blas hotel that we recommend for this tour uses good practices to protect environment. As a tour operator specializing in tailor-made vacations we have a privilege's to ensure we can design our vacations with great care to support local communities. In this tour we have focused on picking accommodations that are actively supporting locals. Moreover we are encouraging our clients to interact with locals and support their businesses with purchases of their products and services. It is important to ensure that we are not just visiting places, but we are also trying to connect locals with tourists. For example we promote visits to local handicraft markets to purchase some handmade crafts. Also if there is any cultural show we are recommending it to our guests. Hotels that we suggest for this tour helping local communities in many different ways:

* Casa Andina Premium projects:

PERU CHAMPS
Peru Champs is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to children with high potential and low-income family . With the help of Peru Champs we empower the lives of thousands of children.

We help children in the form of donations from our guests. 5 $ – $ 10 $ -25 contribute to one day of international quality education.

In the case of Casa Andina our Champ was Andrés Sillo , a young man with a lot of interest in cooking and service matters , which we support in his studies the years 2014 -2015. Andrés was part of a rigorous evaluation process to get a full scholarship in a renowned university. Because of its constant effort and good academic Andrés got the full scholarship to study at the university. It is very gratifying for us to see the effort of Andrés reflected in meeting his goals!

BRINGING HEAT TO THE ANDES
Höseg is a start up company created by the Snak brothers three Peruvian brothers , Addicts to outdoors, decided to combine knowledge and passion , based on the premise : “We have to help “. With his Hungarian roots and a Based Education Importance of sharing, co-exist and always do good, Höseg was born in 2013.

Vulnerable to the bitter cold , they came creating an innovative line of jackets, of high quality warmth. By selling this jacket, another jacket will be delivered to one Peruvian child. ” Höseg is created to help.” Always fostering a culture and a movement constantly innovative in time.

Understanding the reality of many people that live in cold areas in Peru, they started our Social Responsibility Project. They decided to join Höseg, by making together 1,000 high quality coats to warm 1,000 children of high Andean areas.

In a first stage they have deliver 500 coats in communities of Cusco and in May 2016 we delivered the remaining 500 coats in different communities of Puno.
We are actively involved with the work of the LATA Foundation, a charity set up by the Latin America Travel Association to support social and environmental projects throughout the region. These projects are helping to transform lives, providing clean water, dental or medical support and practical training to provide people with new skills in Mexico, Central and South America.

The LATA Foundation supports “Sonrisa” dental clinics providing free dental care to disadvantaged children and youngsters in run down slums of Buenos Aires. The project is run by Todos Juntos, a charity registered both in the UK and in Argentina. Sonrisa means ‘smile’. In 2010, 1500 children visited the clinics and over 11,000 treatments were administered. Today the Sonrisa clinics are providing around 35,000 free treatments to some 7,000 disadvantaged children every year. Children sometimes walk for miles to come to the clinics.

Friends of Alalay directly supports the Alalay Foundation, which was started in the early 1990’s by a 19 year-old Bolivian student who passed street children every day on her way to university and was determined to do something to help. Alalay rescues these kids from the streets and offers them a loving environment living together in family cabins. Alalay also feeds, clothes and educates the children and encourages them in their future working lives.

The LATA Foundation has previously worked with Friends of Alalay to set up a medical unit at their base outside Santa Cruz, a quail farm and refurbishment of buildings.

During this tour you will have a chance to see Tango performance alongside with some other cultural performances. Supporting and taking part in these cultural events it helps local communities in preserving their culture and also to generate income. And it also helps tourist to understand their culture.

The Antigua Casona San Blas donates S/1 to Valle Sagrado Verde for every guest that stays with them. It is a small act, that has a big impact. Staying in this hotel will help the Sacred Valley return to its lush state.
