Vacation information
Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modelled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, traveling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. Those with a two-week vacation, a small group tour will save valuable planning time.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Working with our local partner we are actively engaged in delivering training for their staff to develop skills which enables them to work with the customers from overseas, providing them with a new income stream. In taking travelers to some off-beat places in Sudan we are able to create a positive experience for those communities. Importantly they are able to see the positive benefits of tourism and in doing so work towards preserving their cultural heritage. In Soleb and Tombos the guesthouses we stay at provide local employment and encourages people that it isn't necessary to leave their village to go to seek employment in the major cities.
When camping in the desert we have worked with the local crew to ensure that all rubbish is taken with us when we leave, ensuring the beautiful landscape is left as we found it.
As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.
People
Sudan has a very limited tourist industry. We believe that as many people as possible should benefit form our visits and so groups are actively encouraged to shop in local markets (the dates are highly recommended!) and to spend money within the community. We go off the beaten track and stay in some small guesthouses.Traveling with a local guide we are able to get closer to the communities we pass through; on this trip we visit local families, in both village and desert communities. Our groups are invited to join them for drinks and to learn more about their daily life.
One of the joys of driving through Sudan is stopping for a cup of chai in one of the cafes that appear intermittingly on the roadside. During these stops not only are we supporting local businesses, but also it is a fabulous chance to meet and engage with the Sudanese.
As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
