1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Carpet buying in Isfahan was truly a great experience. We laughed so much with our guide and the carpet sellers and spent a good couple of hours drinking tea and learning about the carpets. Also, the attention that we received from the friendly and hospitable locals was really lovely.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Forget all the political info you see on the news and go and enjoy yourself. Having travelled to many countries, I can truly say that we have never felt safer or more welcome than we did in Iran. Having the visa in place before arrival and having the correct clothing for ladies before traveling will make your arrival very easy.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Whilst the vacation certainly benefitted the locals, I'm not sure that there was a great effect on reducing environmental impacts or supporting conservation. The guide / driver did have a car that ran on CNG so that is better for the environment then standard diesel / petrol but we did drive for over 1800km so maybe train travel for some sections could be considered
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Absolutely excellent. We had a fantastic time.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Carbon reduction, environment and wildlife -On this tour we have endeavoured to minimise fuel combustion by opting to take the new high-speed rail service from Bukhara to Tashkent, thus avoiding a long drive. In all other respects, our choice of transport is carefully selected to have the best fuel economy, and room for all passengers to ride-share.
We chose camping by Aydarkul to create an authentic nomadic experience. However, inadvertently by doing this and by asking guests to share yurts, as well as basic toilets and washing facilities, we have actively restricted the energy that would have been used in housing clients under a roof.
In the Naurata Mountains, we support protection of a valuable wildlife sanctuary and corridor by making our presence felt there. This nature reserve was established in the 1970s to protect the evertsev sheep, the Argail, whose numbers had become endangered. The reserve is now an important ecology for the recovery of this wild sheep. By consolidating tourist links, the Naurata's conservation status is upheld.
As strong believers in heritage conservation, we will always strive to visit UNESCO sites. Shakhrisabz and Baysun are no different. Our tour scheduling places much emphasis on these sites, not only for the wonder they continue arouse in people, but also for their continued preservation, including the environmental fallout of what's around them.
We also ask that you be vigilant about disposing rubbish and recycle where possible. During your trip you will be asked if you have any waste to dispose of when it is a suitable time in the itinerary. This ensures we make it as easy as possible for our travelers to be eco-friendly whilst traveling. Furthermore, we strongly advise all travelers to bring a reusable water bottle. Your guide will remind you where and when you can fill up your re-usable water bottle.
People
Local people, economy and diversity -In compiling this tour, from sites of interest to the crew that carry out the day-to-day logistics, we've gone all out to go local, be inclusive, and to directly benefit the local communities we encounter on the road. For example, in Karshi we'll visit carefully-selected weavers to discover the art of the carpet cottage industry. Our presence there provides them with paid employment through practical tutorials, through direct sales, and through free advertising to a Western market.
The majority of our guides, drivers, and handlers, are locally-sourced. All are culturally aware and sensitive. By partnering with national DMCs, staff that deliver the tours have a reliable source of income to add to career prospects in the Leisure & Tourism industry.
Our trips are designed for maximum cultural exchange. In Baysun we meet local artisans at the Arts & Crafts Center, where artisanal skills are displayed. We ensure fair trade and fair prices on all locally-produced items. And not only that, because our tours have a strong ethnic feel, we propel indigenous culture and women into the center ground.
