Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

We show we understand why water is too precious to waste and, when it rains, we savour every drop. We provide training to trip leaders on water consumption best practices and how to encourage their travelers to follow these principles too. As tap water is generally safe to drink along the Adriatic Coast and in Slovenia, we encourage travelers to bring a reusable water bottle that they can refill throughout the trip. This reduces the number of single-use plastic water bottles disposed of by our travelers. We continue to work with local suppliers on water management initiatives. For example, encouraging hotel owners to provide water refill stations, and in-room signage requesting short showers, repeated towel use and turning taps off.
Where possible we choose to travel by land rather than air. By minimizing the use of flights on our trips, we are making journeys more stimulating and more sustainable for travelers. This trip around the Adriatic Coast does not include any flights, providing all transport by road or boat. We ensure our vehicles are fuel-efficient and well maintained with regular servicing. We use vehicles that are an appropriate size to suit the group size. For example, we wouldn’t use a 16-seater van if we only had five people traveling with us. We optimize our driving routes to reduce travel time and our carbon footprint, and we turn the engine off when travelers are visiting a site and not in the vehicle.

Our trips maximize the opportunity for travelers to engage meaningfully with local culture and communities. Many experiences on our trips also support traditional cultural practices – whether artisanal, culinary or otherwise. In turn, this helps to sustain and preserve these traditional practices so that future generations may continue to learn, enjoy and benefit from them. This trip includes truffle and wine-tasting in Motovun, Croatia. The region’s forests are well-known for their black magic, and travelers will get to learn about the truffle-hunting history of the region, sample Croatian omelettes topped with truffle, washing it down with an expertly paired glass of wine, recommended by our sommelier host.
The best folk to show you the heart of a destination are the ones that live there, which is why we work exclusively with local leaders. Our leaders are not only travel experts, they’re teachers, travel gurus and enthusiastic purveyors of grassroots experiences. They’ll just as easily steer you through the laneways of a city as help you strike up a conversation with the locals – and all with a smile. On this trip through Slovenia and Croatia, travelers will also be joined by an expert local guide in Zadar for an afternoon tour of this beautiful town. Our local guide is a long-time friend of ours, having guided our groups around Zadar for many years. Passionate and knowledgeable, travelers are sure to gain incredible insights and secret tips from our Zadar specialist.
